House fire likely caused by fire in a wood-burning chimney

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a two-storey house fire in a home on Colindale Cove Saturday morning, February 6, 2021.

As crews arrived on the scene smoke could be seen coming from the home. An offensive attack was launched and fire was declared under control about 40 minutes later.

No injuries were reported

Fire investigators believe that the fire originated in a wood-burning chimney.

Officials warn that wood-burning fireplaces, wood stoves and chimneys need to be cleaned and inspected each year by a qualified professional. Fires can happen when built-up creosote in a chimney is ignited by sparks or high temperatures.
