Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service is warning homeowners about the dangers of leaving their dishwashers on while away from home.
On Monday, December 16, 2019, firefighters responded to a home on Magnus Avenue just after 9:30 am.
When they arrived on scene they encountered heavy smoke throughout the home and launched an offensive attack.
Although everyone had exited the home prior to firefighters arriving two dogs and a cat were brought to safety by emergency crews.
The cause of the blaze has been determined to be electrical in nature originating from the dishwasher.
WFPS warns homeowners to not run their dishwashers while away from home and also to inspect them for cracks and leaks inside the unit which could allow water into electrical components.
If your dishwasher makes a strange noise, don’t ignore it. Unplug the unit and call a qualified service technician.
