It is a title that no city wants to have and one everyone is happy to be rid of.
The 2015 Homicide Survey was released from Statistics Canada today. The annual report breaks down the data into several categories and names the city with the most homicides. The total number of homicides in Canada in 2015 was 604, which is up by 83 over 2014.
The report this year shows that in 2015 Regina had the most homicides followed by Saskatoon, Edmonton then Winnipeg.
The majority of homicide victims were male (71%) with female victims accounting for 29% of those killed and
87% of victims were killed by someone they knew.
More than a third of the victims died due to stabbings followed by 30% killed by guns and 23% though physical attacks.
According to the survey Canada’s aboriginal population makes up about 5% of the total population yet they accounted for 25% of all homicides in the country.
