A man police believe was high on Methamphetamines allegedly attacked a security guard and broke into a suite at a housing complex in the first 100 block of Ellen Street.
It happened just before 3:00 am on Friday, December 29, 2017. According to reports the male was banging on doors and had attempted to pry at windows and patio doors trying to get into suites at the complex. When security arrived the suspect picked up a piece of wood and hit the guard in the head.
The male suspect then went back to trying to get into a suite which he was able to do shortly afterwards. He finally forced a door open to a suite that had a family inside. The family was woken up by the break-in and were able to flee the home as the suspect wandered through the suite.
At some point, the suspect came after the family outside but they were able to get into a neighbours suite for safety. Te suspect then tried to break into the suite the family had taken refuge in but he was unsuccessful and returned to rummage through the initial suite he broke into.
Police arrived and took the suspect into custody at which point the suspect threatened officers that he was going to shoot them.
Stephen Michael Andrews, 29 from Winnipeg, has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Break & Enter with Intent – Dwelling House (x3)
- Break Enter & Commit – Dwelling House
- Assault with a Weapon
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
- Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
He was detained in custody.
