A 28-year-old home invader is facing a number of serious charges after he allegedly cut power to a house, posed as a cop and threatened to kill one of the people inside.
It all began just before 3:30 am on Friday, January 4, 2019, at a home in the Burrows-Central area of the city.
Police say the suspect removed part of the electricity meter which cut power to the home. He then knocked on the door which was answered by a 67-year-old male who had been watching television when the power went out and assumed the person at the door was a hydro worker fixing the problem.
As the door opened the suspect, with his face concealed, pushed his way inside and demanded to see the man’s young daughters. The suspect tried to tell the victim he was a police officer but the victim didn’t buy the story and began struggling with the suspect.
During the struggle the suspect pulled a knife and threaten kill the victim.
Police officers arrived as the pair were struggling and upon seeing them the suspect surrendered.
Police searched the bag the suspect had been carrying and found:
- Clown Mask
- A weapon made from a chainsaw chain and bicycle parts
- a club made from bicycle parts
- Tape
- Multi-tool
- Pair of pants
- Belt
Robert Junior Spence was charged for his alleged involvement with Break Enter & Commit – Dwelling House, Disguise with Intent, Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon, Personating Peace Officer, Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm, Mischief under $5,000, Fail to Comply with Probation Order, Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge / Justice.
Spence was detained in custody.
