Last night, December 1, 2017, the Winnipeg Police Service hit the streets with their annual holiday season checkstop program.
In 2016, 4472 vehicles were stopped in the month of December during the campaign. 168 breathalyzer tests were given resulting in 46 arrests for impaired driving and 27 warnings that came with a 72-hour suspension.
Statistics show that impaired driving is the number one criminal cause of death. It is also 100% preventable.
Winnipeg Police Service say they will be out every night looking for impaired drivers and have issued a reminder.
