Winnipeg Police Service released the results of their Holiday Checkstop Program for the third week.
Week three saw 710 vehicles stopped and checked. 20 people were given immediate roadside driver’s licence prohibitions, Eleven people were issued traffic offence tickets. Two drivers tested positive for Cannabis using oral fluid tests and six drivers were criminally charged with impaired operation offences.
Police remind drivers that impaired driving is responsible for nearly one-third of all traffic fatalities in Manitoba. Their message is “if you’re under the influence of alcohol or drugs, DON’T DRIVE.”
The Holiday Checkstop Program continues until New Year’s Day.
