Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a fire in an 18-storey apartment building on Edmonton Street late Thursday night, MAy 7, 2020.
Firefighters arrived on scene shortly after 11:10 pm and called in a second alarm in order to increase the number of equipment and crews on scene due to the high numbers of occupants in the building.
Several people evacuated the building before firefighters arrived while others still in the building were asked to shelter in place.
The fire was declared under control by 11:41 pm. Crews remained on scene once the fire was out in order to ventilate the smoke from the building.
One person was assessed on scene by paramedics and taken to hospital in stable condition.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
