A high-speed chase ended in a collision at the intersection of Chief Peguis Trail and Henderson Highway late Monday night, sending two people to hospital and prompting an investigation by the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU).
Just before 11:30 p.m. on February 17, 2025, Winnipeg Police Service East District General Patrol officers observed a vehicle speeding near Henderson Highway and Johnson Avenue. Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver fled, leading to a pursuit. Police initially followed but lost sight of the vehicle.
Air1, the police helicopter, located the fleeing vehicle a short time later. The vehicle had rear-ended another car and then collided with a light standard at the northwest corner of Chief Peguis Trail and Henderson Highway, becoming inoperable.
Following the crash, a passenger fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers. The driver was trapped in the vehicle and required extrication by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS). Both the driver and passenger were transported to hospital for medical treatment.
Due to the driver’s injuries sustained in the collision, the IIU was notified and has taken over the investigation.
