A stolen truck, a high-speed chase, and a foot pursuit culminated in the arrest of a 29-year-old Winnipeg man on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
The incident began when Central General Patrol officers spotted a red Dodge Ram with an improper license plate near Logan Avenue and Sherbrook Avenue. When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver fled at a high rate of speed.
Officers called in Air 1, the Winnipeg Police Service helicopter, to track the fleeing vehicle from above. Air 1 maintained visual contact as the Dodge Ram sped through city streets.
The pursuit ended abruptly at the intersection of Higgins Avenue and Main Street when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed. Air 1 guided ground units to the crash site, where officers witnessed the driver fleeing on foot from the now inoperable truck. A brief foot pursuit ensued, and the suspect was apprehended without incident.
During the arrest, officers seized a canister of bear spray from the suspect. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle, a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500, had been reported stolen on March 3 from the 3100 block of Pembina Highway.
The 29-year-old male now faces multiple charges, including:
- Possession of a Weapon
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order
He has been detained in police custody.
