High-risk traffic stop uncovers loaded handgun

A 28-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a high-risk traffic stop led police to uncover a loaded handgun on Wednesday evening, August 23, 2023.

According to Winnipeg police, officers spotted a vehicle that was suspected to have been involved in a previous firearm-related incident that was still under investigation. The vehicle was stopped in the 500 block of Arlington Street.

Two main were taken into custody. One of the males was carrying a bag that contained a loaded handgun with a high-capacity magazine.

Kevin Aaron Schoffer was charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized x 2
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 2

Schoffer was detained in custody.
