High-Risk driving net two Steinbach motorcyclists charges and huge fines

Two Steinbach area men in their 20s learned a very expensive lesson about dangerous driving and speed last Friday, May 11, 2018.

According to RCMP, they were on patrol between La Broquerie and Steinbach when they saw a motorcycle rider speeding in excess of 200 km/hr in the 100 km/hr zone on Highway 52.

The 21-year-old male rider was fined $1385, issued a Serious Offence Notice and had both his motorcycle and driver’s licence taken by police.

Almost two hours later officers in Steinbach spotted a motorcyclist blow through a stop sign in Steinbach then weave in and out of traffic before he ran a red light at Highway 12 and Lowen Boulevard. Police say that he then blew through another stop sign this time on Giesbrecht Street.

Officers say the motorcyclist did eventually stop at Ellice Avenue and Giesbrecht Street where officers were “patiently waiting for him.”

The 20-year-old male is facing a number of charges including Drive Imprudently, Fail to Stop, Drive Carelessly, Drive Unregistered Motorcycle and Driving with an Invalid Licence.

He was also issued a Serious Offence Notice and had his licence and motorcycle seized.
