High-rise fire sends residents onto the street

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was called to a high-rise apartment building on Hargrave Street for the report of a fire just after 1:00 am on Saturday morning, October 31, 2020.

When crews arrived many of the building’s residents had already evacuated while others remain in their apartments and lobby area of the building.

Although nothing was showing from the outside, several residents of the building said there was a significant amount of smoke on the 10th floor. The smoke eventually made its way down to the 7th floor.

One person who lives in the building said that she began smelling smoke about an hour before the building fire alarms began to ring.

Fire officials called in a second alarm in order to have more equipment and personnel on scene.

The fire was declared under control around 2:04 am.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Residents were eventually able to re-enter their suites once crews had completed their work in the building.
