An early morning fire on Friday, January 7, 2022, at a Kennedy Street apartment tower resulted in dozens of people having to evacuate the building.
Heavy smoke hung throughout the high-rise as firefighters arrived on the scene. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control within 45 minutes. Most of the damage to the structure was contained to the suite where the blaze started.
Residents from the building were able to seek shelter in a neighbouring building and on a Winnipeg Transit Bus that was brought to the scene.
Once crews were able to ventilate the building most residents were able to return to their suites.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
