Thompson RCMP have issued a three-day suspension after a 20-year-old male was arrested for impaired driving.
Police say that just before 1:00 am on Thursday, October 18, 2018, they had set up a checkstop in Thompson. While at the checkstop officers noticed an SUV that was indicating that it was going to turn onto the road where the checkstop was but then made a sudden turn going the other way.
Police say that an officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and when the officer approached they noticed the smell of cannabis. They also observed that the driver appeared to be impaired.
A field sobriety test was conducted on the driver and the officer determined that the man was impaired. The man was taken into custody and police made a demand for a blood sample. The driver was taken to a medical facility and blood was taken.
Although the man’s licence was suspended police cannot lay charges against the man until they receive the results of the blood test.
