WINNIPEG WEATHER

Heavy snow and strong winds in store for southern Manitoba this week

A Colorado low heading towards Minnesota on Tuesday night is expected to bring heavy snow, high winds and blowing snow into most of southern Manitoba.

Although the highest accumulations are expected in North Dakota, snowfall near the international border could be as high as 60 cm. North of the border and including the City of Winnipeg could see snow amounts between 20 to more than 40 cm.

Strong winds are expected to develop Wednesday into Thursday in the Red River Valley with gusts up to 80 km/h at times. The strong winds combined with heavy snow will cause reductions in visibility. Travel conditions outside the city are expected to cause difficult driving conditions and possible road closures.

The storm is expected to move into Ontario and conditions should begin to improve on Friday.

Environment Canada issued a Special Weather Statement regarding the storm and say that confidence in the track of the storm is improving but remains uncertain. Changes in the projected track could lead to significant changes in the projected accumulations, type of precipitation and wind speeds over the region.
