The humidex is expected to reach 40 on Friday, July 24, 2020.

A cooler airmass will move into the area on Saturday.

As temperatures sore it is important to stay hydrated. Heat affects the body’s ability to regulate its temperature and it can become overworked if exposed to heat for too long. This can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, other serious illnesses or even death.

Tips to think about during a heat wave are:

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Avoid the sun
  • Plan outdoor activities for cooler parts of the day
  • Limit physical activities during the hotter parts of the day or exercise in an air-conditioned place.
  • Check on family members, neighbours and friends-especially older adults and those with chronic conditions.
  • Never leave people or pets in your care alone in closed vehicles or direct sunlight.
