HEALTH | HELIPAD OPENS AT HSC

It was announced more than five years ago and today it finally opens.

The new helipad on top of the new Diagnostic Centre of Excellence at Health Sciences Centre is ready to receive air ambulances.

Stars, Manitoba’s air ambulance service, tested the helipad on Friday last week and have given it the thumbs up from their perspective. It is anticipated that being able to land on the roof of HSC will reduce travel times for patients by up to 30 minutes.

Currently air ambulances have to land at James Richardson Airport then transfer patients to ground ambulance that then take the patient to HSC.

“With this site open, it will be easier and faster for Manitobans to get the emergency care they need,” said Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living Kelvin Goertzen. “This partnership between the WRHA, HSC and STARS is a great example of health partners working together to make a real difference for patients, and further strengthens our health-care system.”
