Concordia and Seven Oaks Emergency rooms to close in 2019

The second phase of healthcare changes will see Concordia hospital close their emergency room in June 2019 with Seven Oaks hospital’s ER closing in September 2019.

The announcement came on Thursday, May 31, 2018.

Seven Oaks will get an Urgent Care Centre to replace the ER but Concordia will become a community hospital offering community care, transitional care and orthopedic surgery. The ER at Concordia will be repurposed for some other function that has yet to be identified.

A number of services currently offered at Seven Oakes and Concordia will be sent elsewhere according to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.

The intensive care units at both Seven Oaks and Concordia will be shifted to Health Science Centre and St. Boniface Hospital

Mental Health Services will be will be consolidated by the end of this year at HSC, St B and Victoria Hospital. Victoria Hospital will see 52 beds added for mental health care.

Health Minister Kelvin Goertzen said to expect announcements later this summer about changes to rural health care services.
