Manitoba Justice says that on Thursday, October 4, 2018, an inmate of Headingley Correctional Centre died in hospital.
Details of the death including the identity of the inmate were note released citing “privacy reasons”.
Manitoba Justice has notified the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as they are required to do under legislation.
This is the first in-custody death at a provincial correctional facility in 2018.
In August a 25-year-old federal inmate at Stony Mountain Institution just north of Winnipeg died after he had been assaulted.
