Hatchet wielding thieves threaten mall security

Two men are in custody after allegedly stealing items from a McPhillips Street shopping centre.

On Wednesday, November 21, 2018, police were called after security staff had approached two men who were responsible for a theft at a clothing store. One of the suspects pulled out a hatchet and raised it over his head as he threatened the two security officers. Both men took off but were followed. Once again the security staff were threatened with the hatchet but also with a knife from the second suspect. Both suspects began swinging the weapons.

Police searched the area and located the two male suspects near McPhillips Street and Kingsbury Avenue. Both were taken into custody and the stolen items were recovered.

The pair now faces robbery, weapon and utter threats charges in connection to the incident.
