Hammer wielding male attacks two people, smashes windows

Winnipeg Police have arrested and charged a 28-year-old male for his alleged involvement in an incident that saw two people attacked and windows smashed at a Main Street business.

Officers were called to the area of Higgins Avenue and Main Street after a man began attacking a car in a business parking lot. Police say that a female employee was in the vehicle when the man began hitting the car with a hammer. During the attack a male employee came out of the business to help his co-worker. The suspect chase both of them into the building where they were able to lock the door. The suspect then began smashing windows out of the building in an attempt to get inside.

Police say the attack stopped as quickly as it began when the male ran off and boarded a Winnipeg Transit bus. Responding officers stopped the bus nearby and took the suspect into custody.

The suspect is believed to have been under the influence of Meth and alcohol at the time of the incident.

For his alleged involvement the suspect has been charged with two counts of Assault with a Weapon, two counts of Mischief Under $5,000 and two counts of breach-related charges.

He was released from custody on an Undertaking.
