Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a fire on Hamilton Meadows Drive in the west end of the city on Sunday afternoon, February 10, 2019.

Fire Chief John Lane says that the fire started in the garage around 3:00 pm and had pushed into the house before firefighters arrived on scene.

Smoke from the blaze could be seen for several kilometres.

Lane said that crews initially had taken an offensive approach to the fire but were unable to maintain that once it was evident the blaze had taken hold and pushed into the house.

A ladder truck was set up behind the home on Hamilton Avenue and crews doused the fire from above and protected the homes on either side as well

The investigation into the fire will begin in the garage said the chief.
