Hair straightener to blame for Andrews Street fire

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service say that a hair straightener is to blame for a fire on Andrews Street late Saturday night, April 6, 2024.

Firefighters were called to the one-and-a-half storey home in the 100 block at 10:52 p.m.

Smoke was coming from the house as crews arrived on the scene. An internal offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control within 30 minutes.

The occupants of the building were able to get out safely before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported. The City’s Emergency Social Services Team was called in to help residents find temporary accommodations.

Investigators say the hair straightener was placed close to combustible materials

Damage estimates are not available at the this time.
