Police in Sandy Bay First Nation chase suspect after hearing a gunshot

Manitoba First Nations Police have one man in custody after officers heard what they believed was a gunshot on Sandy Bay First Nation on Tuesday, September 17, 2019.

Officers responded to the area and spotted a half-ton truck speeding away from the area. The truck was driving without headlights or tail lights and was coming from the direction of the gunshot.

Police gave chase and tried to stop the vehicle but the driver refused to pull over. In an effort to evade officers the truck veered into a field but quickly became stuck in the mud.

The 38 year-old male driver along with a 16-year-old female were taken into custody. A pellet gun was found on the seat of the truck.

The driver is facing multiple charges including charges for firearms. He was detained in custody pending an appearance in court.
