Portage la Prairie carjacking at gunpoint, police searching for suspect

RCMP in Portage la Prairie are searching for a male suspect after he carjacked a vehicle at gunpoint on Wednesday night.

It happened just after 10:00 pm November 1, 2017, a male approached a van that was parked but running. The suspect got into the vehicle pulled out a gun and hit the male driver. The suspect then took off with the van.

Police say the driver was taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as an Indigenous male with a slim build, about 5’10” tall. He was wearing a mask or bandana covering his face, a black jacket with fur around the hood and blue jeans.

Police are looking for the suspect and vehicle. The van is a red Dodge Caravan with Manitoba licence plate HUT 784

RCMP in Portage are advising drivers to make sure their vehicle doors are locked when they are stopped
