Police patrolling Winnipeg’s west end who spotted a stolen vehicle caught more than they were expecting in the stop.
The stolen vehicle was first spotted near Keewatin Street and Logan Avenue at around 12:40 a.m., on January 17, 2022. In an effort to stop the vehicle, additional police unites were added and a tire deflation device was successfully deployed at Route 90 and Inkster Boulevard. The stolen truck landed in the ditch shortly after running over the device.
Firearms, ammunition and a grenade were spotted in the truck, so members of the police bomb unit were called in to check out the munition. It appears the grenade was determined to be inert. The sawed-off shotgun and semi-automatic rifle found were both loaded, and along with various weapons paraphernalia, officers found what they believe to be around 20 thousand dollars worth of cocaine.
Police announced charged against two of the three truck occupants taken into custody at the scene:
The 31-year-old driver faces ten firearms-related charges, fleeing from police, and assaulting police, along with possessing cocaine and property obtained by crime.
A 22-year-old passenger faces nine firearms-related offences.
