53-year-old male arrested on attempted murder charges

Just after 10:pm on Saturday June 29, 2019, police responded to Greenway Crescent in St. James for the report of a stabbing.

When officers arrived they found a female victim suffering from severe upper body injuries. She was taken to hospital by paramedics in critical condition.

Shortly afterwards the RCMP arrested the suspect in Headingley.

According to investigators the suspect had stolen the victim’s vehicle after the attack and travelled westbound on Portage Avenue.

Near the Flying-J the suspect veered into oncoming traffic hitting a semi-truck. He then jumped out of the vehicle and under a passing semi.

RCMP placed the suspect under arrest but due to his he was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Naresh Ramnanan, 53 from Winnipeg is facing charges for his alleged involvement including:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance

He remains in police custody.
