Girl stabbed at Winkler church Sunday

A 39-year-old man is in custody after he allegedly stabbed a 15-year-old female in the back and stomach on Sunday, August 27, 2017.

It happened at the Pembina Valley Baptist Church on Manitoba Road in Winkler around 1:00 pm. Winkler is about 120 kilometres south of Winnipeg.

 

 

When officers arrived on scene they found the girl suffering from stab wounds and quickly located the male suspect in the parking lot outside the church. The victim was taken to the Boundry Trails Health Centre by Paramedics and then transported to Winnipeg by Stars air ambulance. She is in stable condition.

Police say that shortly after the service the man went into the women’s washroom and using a folding knife attacked the girl

The suspect has been charged with aggravated assault and possess weapon for dangerous purpose under advice from crown prosecutors

Police do not know what motivated the attack and say that the man did not know the victim
