Garage fire spreads to vehicle and vacant building

Reports of a garage fire brought firefighters to the 500 block of Sherbrook Street around 7:30 pm on Sunday, August 7, 2022.

When crews arrived they found that the fire had spread from the garage to a vehicle nearby and a vacant two-and-a-half storey, multi-family residence.

An offensive attack was launched using an aerial ladder and handlines. Crews remained on the scene fighting the blaze and putting out hotspots late into the night.

No one was found in the garage, vehicle or residence. Homes on either side of the fire were evacuated as a precaution.

Fire officials report that one firefighter was injured while battling the fire. They were assessed by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital unstable condition. No other injuries were reported.

Sherbrook Street was closed between Ellice Avenue and Sargent Avenue while crews were on the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation
