Winter Family Fishing Weekend February 18th to 20th
Dig out those fishing poles and lawn chairs it’s time for a weekend of free ice fishing and mother nature is going to make it pleasant. Beginning Saturday February 18th and running to February 20, 2017 fishing in Manitoba is FREE!
“Manitoba has a great tradition of quality ice fishing, a leisure activity that both Manitobans and visitors to our province look forward to participating in every winter,”Sustainable Development Minister Cathy Cox said. “We are excited to continue the tradition of Winter Family Fishing Weekend and encourage everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to participate once again or try ice fishing for the first time. It is a great way to spend a winter day with family or friends and there are endless opportunities throughout our province to get a line in the water.”
If you have never tried fishing through a hole in the ice now is your chance. The province has waived the licence requirements for this weekend only, although it doesn’t extend to national parks. Fishing limits will still apply.
Due to the expected warm weather in Southern Manitoba anglers are reminded to be sure of ice conditions and ensure they are safe before venturing out. It is also important to remember that weather conditions can change to dress in layers and wear appropriate clothing so that everyone can enjoy themselves.
Weather forecasters are calling for above zero temperatures the entire weekend. Saturday will be +3, Sunday +3 and Monday the mercury will rise to +6.
