A Manitoba summer tradition will continue as the province’s free family fishing weekend will be held June 11 and 12.
“This weekend, we encourage Manitobans and visitors to our province to get out and enjoy the great outdoors and recreational fisheries free of charge,” said Sustainable Development Minister Cathy Cox. “This is a great opportunity to spend a weekend with family and friends and explore Manitoba’s abundant fisheries and parks.”
Summer family fishing weekends have been offered since 1992. On June 11 and 12, anglers will be able to fish without a licence provincewide, except in national parks where a federal licence is still required. Access to provincial parks will also be free starting Friday through Sunday, June 12.
Anglers fishing without a licence this weekend will be allowed to keep a conservation licence limit of fish, which varies by species. All other rules and regulations will apply, as outlined in the 2016 Manitoba Anglers’ Guide, which can be found at www.manitobafisheries.com.
