Local man steals $230,000 through internet based scam

 

 

 

A 26 year old Winnipeg man has been busted after he was allegedly involved with a scam to defraud victims around the globe.

The Winnipeg Police Service became aware of the scam in March of 2016 that was using mass marketing on the internet to lure in victims.

Using E-mail and text messages to respond to advertisements or posting bogus ads on the internet the suspect bilked more than 50 victims from Canada, the United States and Europe out of over $230,000

Some of the on-line advertisements are relating to: Romance, Employment and Rental scams.

Michael Ose Odine, 26 from Winnipeg has been charged with more than 50 fraud related offences due to his alleged involvement. 
   
He remains in custody.
