Winnipeg Police issued a warning on Friday, January 12, 2018, about fraudsters who say they are soliciting funds on behalf of “COPS for KIDS”
Police say that over the last few months they have received reports of people being telephoned and being asked for cash or credit card information. According to people who have received the calls the person on the other end of the call has been overly aggressive and not accepting of a “no” answer when people have declined support.
Winnipeg Police say that their Cops for Kids cycle relay team does not conduct fundraising over the phone and that even if they did they would never use aggressive tactics while looking for support.
You have the right to say “NO” to any offer you are not interested in. Police say that if you need any information about the WPS to call them on the non-emergency number at 204-986-6222.
