Four teens will be heading to court to answer for a number of charges related to the assault of security officers at the Forks on Saturday, March 9, 2024.
According to Winnipeg Police Service, officers responded to the forks on Saturday, March 9, 2024, after receiving reports that multiple youths were fighting with security officers.
When police arrived on the scene several suspects scattered in multiple direction but officers were able to catch four teens after short foot pursuits near the Esplanade Riel Footbridge. Police recovered brass knuckles and a knife from the youths.
The investigation learned that that several youths who had been barred from the Forks were seen inside the market place. Security intercepted the youth and told them to leave the property. As the suspects were being escorted off the property they became angry with the security officers and threatened to assault them. As they reached Esplanade Riel Footbridge one of the suspects discharged a can of bear spray at security and began physically assaulting them.
Two 14-year-old males, a 16-year-old male and a 17-year-old male face a number of charges for their alleged involvement including Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon, Carry Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition, Utter Threats, and Breaches.
All four of the accused were released on Appearance Notices or Undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code of Canada.
