Four people found dead near the Canada-US border

RCMP are investigating after the bodies of an adult male and female, a teen and an infant were found close to the Canada-US border near Emerson on Wednesday, January 19, 2022.

According to the RCMP they learned from officers of the US Customs and Border Protection that a group of people had crossed into the US from Canada near Emerson. The agents indicated that one of the adults in the group had items meant for an infant but no infant was with the group.

A search was launched on both sides of the border and at about 1:30 pm the bodies of an adult male, an adult female and an infant were discovered in the Canadian side of the border about 10 kilometres east of Emerson.

Police continued to search for additional victims and located a male in his mid-teens.

Police say that early indications are that the four died from exposure. Autopsys have been ordered to confirm the cause of death and police are working to identify the deceased.

RCMP continue to patrol the area on Thursday for any other victims or survivors. So far no others have been located.
