Four more schools linked to variants of concern

66 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the province today. One case has been removed due to data correction. This brings the net-new number of cases today to 65. One death was reported today due to the virus

The person who died has been identified as:

  • a male in his 50s from the Winnipeg Health Region.

The five-day test positivity rate is currently 5.2 per cent provincially and 3.7 per cent in Winnipeg.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba is 33,418.

Today’s cases are from the following health regions:

  • zero cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region;
  • 17 cases in the Northern health region;
  • zero cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region;
  • four cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region; and
  • 45 cases in the Winnipeg health region.

There are currently 1,205 active cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba with 31,285 people listed as recovered.

138 people are being treated in the hospital of which 62 are considered infectious. 25 people with the virus are in Intensive Care Units with 11 of them still considered infectious.

One additional case of B.1.1.7 variant has been detected in the Prairie Mountain Health region. That patient has now recovered.

The total number of confirmed variant of concern cases of B.1.1.7 is 63 and B.1.351 is 14, bringing the total number of confirmed variant of concern cases to 77.

Variants of concern cases have been linked to four Winnipeg schools. Letters have been sent to parents of close contacts at St. Paul High School, Our Lady of Victory, Highbury School and Ecole Riviere Rouge.

928 Manitobans have died since COVID-19 first arrived in the province.

1,533 tests were completed yesterday. Since the virus first arrived in February 2020, there have been 564,735 tests completed.

Eligibility to be immunized for COVID-19 has expanded to include those over age 65 and First Nation people over 45.
