In October 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Sex Crimes Unit launched an investigation into allegations of sexual exploitation. The survivor, now an adult, reported that between May 2019 and August 2020, while she was a teenager, she attended an afterschool program within the Seven Oaks School Division. During this time, her student support worker, an adult male, groomed her, resulting in a sexually exploitative relationship.
On November 3, 2024, members of the Sex Crimes Unit arrested and charged 37-year-old Matthew James Mousseau with Sexual Assault and Sexual Exploitation. He was detained in custody. Investigators determined that Mousseau had been employed as a teacher in several Winnipeg schools until May 2024 but is no longer teaching.
