Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire in the former Nygard building on Notre Dame Avenue.
Crews responded to an automatic alarm around 5:53 am on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, and could see smoke and flames coming from the structure as they arrived on the scene.
A defensive attack was launched using aerial ladders and landlines due to dangerous conditions inside the building.
The City of Winnipeg says that crews are expected to be on-scene for an extended period of time. Notre Dame is closed in both directions between Erin Street and Flint Street.
WFPS says that the building suffered major structural damage during the blaze.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
