The Red River Mutual Trail has added another leg to the popular skating trail along the Rivers. The trail opened this year with the first leg along the Assiniboine River from the Forks to the Osborne Street bridge behind the Manitoba Legislature. The extension of the trail runs along the Red River from the Forks to the Norwood Bridge. So far the trail is about 2.5 kilometres long but if the weather cooperates it is expected to be expanded up to 6 kilometres this year.
“These cold temperatures have made it a great year for the Red River Mutual Trail,” says Paul Jordan, Chief Executive Officer, The Forks. “The ice is freezing nicely and we’re excited to extend down the Red River to include another neighbourhood.”
For the second season, the Forks has also opened their Crokicurl game. Last year the game that combines the tabletop game crokinole and curling became wildly popular among Forks goers. According to the Forks the game is free to play and is on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Other Winter activities at the historic site include the Arctic Glacier Winter Park and land skating trails. The Forks also offers skate rentals for those who want to lace up.
