Cold temperatures have led to the opening of the first section of the river skating trail effective today, December 28, 2018.
“We’re excited to open part of the Red River Mutual Trail over the Christmas break, ahead of New Year’s Eve celebrations,” says Paul Jordan, Chief Executive Officer, The Forks. “We know the Red River Mutual Trail is a major winter highlight for many people, and we’re optimistic about extending the trail in the coming week.”
The trail is limited to the port rink for now but officials anticipate that extensions will soon be in place along both the Red River and the Assiniboine River
The opening of the trail and the configuration is different every year and is dependent on the weather conditions. Typically the trail opens between mid-December and mid-January and closes at the end of February or beginning of March.
