The Winnipeg Police Service is currently investigating a carjacking incident that took place in the 100 block of Watson Street.
According to a media release, the incident occurred at approximately 7:12 p.m. when a 25-year-old male food delivery driver exited his 2019 Volkswagen Jetta to deliver food, leaving a 21-year-old male passenger in the vehicle. Three suspects approached the vehicle, forcibly removed the passenger, and drove off with the car. Fortunately, the passenger was unharmed and no weapons were involved in the robbery.
Around 7:33 p.m., General Patrol officers noticed the stolen vehicle moving east on Mountain Avenue near Salter Street, driven by a 30-year-old male suspect. After the suspect stopped in the 300 block of Alfred Avenue, he was apprehended by the officers.
The suspect was released on an Appearance Notice as mandated by the Criminal Code.
Authorities are still working to identify the two other individuals involved in the carjacking. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219 or provide tips anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
Editors note: Winnipeg Police Service had originally identified the 30-year-old suspect and said he had been charged for his alleged involvement with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000. On February 21, 2025, the WPS issued a correction saying that the original information had been issued in error and that the suspect had not been formally charged before the court.
