An alleged car thief is in custody thanks to help from the vehicle’s owner.
Winnipeg police say that around 9:15 am on March 9, 2022, a food delivery driver was dropping off a delivery in the 400 block of Selkirk Avenue and had left his vehicle running. When he returned to the car he found a female sitting in the driver’s seat and he quickly jumped into the back seat of the vehicle as the thief sped away.
The suspect then crashed shortly afterwards into two parked vehicles. As she tried to flee the scene the owner of the vehicle gave chase and was able to apprehend the female and hold her until police arrived.
Police say the victim suffered minor injuries after he was assaulted by the female while he was waiting for officers to arrive.
32-year-old Shauna Lee Amber Lynn Joyce Owen has been charged for her alleged involvement with Robbery and Theft over $5,000. She was also processed on an outstanding warrant for vehicle-related offences.
She was detained in custody.
