Flying tire slams into Brandon police cruiser

Brandon Police were involved in a “if they hadn’t seen it for themselves they wouldn’t believe it situation” on Sunday morning.

It all happened just before 11:30 am on March 25, 2018.

Police say that one of their patrol vehicles was parked on the gravelled portion of the westbound lane of the TransCanada Highway with a flat tire.

A second cruiser stopped to help and parked behind the vehicle with the flat.

At this point, across four lanes of traffic on the south service road a passing truck lost a tire. The tire bounced through the ditch separating the highway from the service road.. crossed the two eastbound lanes of Highway 1,  crossed the median then crossed two more lanes of westbound traffic and struck the police car that had come to help the first officer.

Neither officer was injured in the incident and no other vehicles were hit by the flying tire.

Police are investigating the incident.
