Manitoba’s Hydrologic Forecast Centre (HFC) says they are expecting to operate the Portage Diversion within the next few days.
The diversion will be used to keep water flows below 5,000 cubic feet per second on the Assiniboine River.
An Amphibex icebreaking has been working on the diversion channel over the past few days.
The HFC says that the Red River Floodway will also be put in operation next week as river flows increase and ice conditions permit.
The outlook for high water in the Red River Valley is expected to be at or slightly below 2009 levels.
The Red River is expected to crest at Emerson sometime between April 15 and 18.
