RCMP and the Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash of a Cessna 185 Skywagon float plane on Fedirchyk Lake southwest of Little Grand Rapids.
Police say that as the plane was taking off it collided with rocks just before 5:00 pm on Thursday July 11, 2019.
Police and paramedics flew to the scene in a helicopter that happened to be in the area helping Manitoba Sustainable Development with local forest fires.
The pilot was injured during the crash and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The pilot was the only person in the plane at the time of the incident.
RCMP detachment commander at Little Grand Rapids is praising the help from the helicopter crew. “Their help was essential in the rescue due to the remote location of the lake, working collaboratively with Manitoba Sustainable Development was critical for a successful outcome.” said Sergeant Glen Binda.
Both the RCMP and Transportation safety board are continuing to investigate.
