FLAIR AIRLINES TAKES OVER NEWLEAF TRAVEL

Canada’s third national scheduled airline created with merger

Airline ticket reseller NewLeaf  Travel has been taken over by the company it was selling tickets for. On Wednesday June 7, 2017 Flair Airlines announced that it had purchased Winnipeg based NewLeaf.

NewLeaf began operations in 2016 under a cloud as startup, regulatory delays, cancelled flights and booking issues plagued operations. Although the deep discount air service did manage to complete about 2200 flights since opening it is still in its infancy in the market.

Flair says that by absorbing NewLeaf into it’s operations it will gain control over the reservation department, airport passenger services facilities, as well as full control over operations. The company will be based in British Columbia. NewLeaf had been based in Winnipeg and Flair says that all of their employees were offered jobs as part of the merger.

No decision has been announced if the company will operate as Flair, NewLeaf or named something else.

Although the company only operates five  Boeing 737-400s with limited range they have indicated that they expect to expand operations.

Flair did say in a media release today that “expansion is planned for new destinations beginning this year, plus the fall and winter domestic schedule will be released shortly,”
