RCMP have arrested and charged five people after officers conducted a traffic stop on Saturday, April 25, 2020, on Highway 41.
Police say officers pulled a vehicle over around 1:40 am. When speaking with the 32-year-old driver he told officers he did not have a driver’s license. As the investigation unfolded officers learned that the driver was prohibited from driving.
The driver was arrested for impaired driving and provided breath samples. His blood-alcohol level was over 1.5 times the legal limit.
The vehicle was seized by officers and searched. A .22 cal. firearm, 2400 unmarked cigarettes, a small quantity of marijuana, prescription drugs, drug paraphernalia and open liquor were found.
Police say the driver has been charged for his alleged involvement with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Impaired Operation Over 80, Drive while Prohibited, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, three firearms offences, Open Liquor and Possession of Unstamped Tobacco.
The four other passengers aged 47-69 face charges for their alleged involvement of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Firearm in a Motor Vehicle and Possession of Unstamped Tobacco.
All five were released from custody with conditions and will appear in court in September.
RCMP continue to investigate.
