Manitoba Public Health announced late Wednesday afternoon, September 9, 2020, that a student has tested positive for COVID-19 since schools reopened yesterday.
Officials say that the student attended Churchill High School in Winnipeg and used Winnipeg Transit on September 8, 2020 while asymptomatic. They are in grade 7 and assigned to Room 20 in the school.
Physical distancing was maintained by the student and they wore a mask while on Winnipeg Transit and within the school. The cohort the student was in will be notified by health officials and cleaning protocols have begun at the school.
According to public health, the student was one of the 14 Winnipeg cases of COVID-19 identified earlier today.
Manitoba Public Health has not advised anyone to self-isolate but they should self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19.
The student was at the school between 8:00 am and 1:30 pm on Tuesday September 8, 2020.
Winnipeg Transit says that they have also identified the specific bus used on the route at the time of the exposure and thoroughly sanitized it.
The student was on Winnipeg Transit Route 16 – direct bus route to Churchill High School – September 8/20 – 7:51 am and boarded bus at Graham and Vaughan.
