Two early morning fires keep crews busy

Firefighters were kept busy early Monday morning, January 14, 2019 with a couple of working fires.

Just before 6:30 am crews responded to a fire in a three-storey walk-up apartment complex in the 400 block of Maryland Street.

A search of the building located one person still inside. They were evacuated and taken to hospital in critical condition but have been upgraded to stable.

Paramedics brought in the Major Incident Response Vehicle (MIRV) to aid in assessing residents from the building. Three others were taken to hospital in unstable condition as a result of those assessments.

Emergency Social Services workers were brought to the scene to help the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Morley Avenue Fire

At 7:00 am this morning crews also responded to a fire in the 100 block of Morley Avenue in a single family home.

Crews quickly brought the fire under control.

One person was in the residence at the time of the fire but was able to get out before crews arrived. They were taken to hospital in stable condition after being assessed on scene by paramedics.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
